Tumblr's popularity has made it one of the 50 most popular web properties, according to comScore.

Small businesses launching news content marketing campaigns that include social sharing are turning to a number of new platforms to expand their web presence. Among the new networks companies are experimenting with are Pinterest and Tumblr, both of which place a focus on visual content, according to a report from eMarketer.

Pinterest has seen rapid growth in recent months, counting more than 11 million unique visitors in January 2012. The study compared traffic to the website to previous months, dating back to May 2011 when just 400,000 users visited the site.

Even looking back to December, Pinterest has generated substantial growth. In December, the company attracted 7.5 million different visitors. The website has been especially popular among women, who use the platform to share different content. Visual content is especially well received on Pinterest.

Similarly, Tumblr has enabled SMBs to attract a younger, more tech-savvy audience. Posting various photos, whether of new products or the business itself, improves the feeling of accessibility users experience with the SMBs.
